Tons of Happenings in the Former Thieves Camp

Hi Friends,
It's November already! It's getting cold as shit here in Iowa and we are staying busy as all hell with all sorts of goodies for you guys!

First and foremost we would like to formally announce that our EP 'The Great and the Alleged Great' is being released on 12" vinyl. Our buddy Bob over at Mayfly Records is helping us put it out. Darius "Qojak" Carr will be doing the artwork for the record and will also be doing an etching on the reverse side of the vinyl, it should look pretty amazing! The vinyl will also come with a digital download through Mayfly Records. Pre orders will be up next month some time, we will be sure to let you know as soon as we find out. The record release show is slated for Thursday February 11th in Cedar Falls, IA and will also be our full US tour kick off.

Next, we would like to announce that the good people over at Yellow Brick Magazine will have a feature about Former Thieves in next months magazine. We even took shnazzy promo pictures for it, proving that we are some what photogenic. The magazine is free and you should be able to pick it up at all Hot Topics, Guitar Centers, and anywhere else of musical significance around Iowa, or just go to their website and view the magazine in it's entirety for FREE! So go pick up a copy, or go to the site and check out our ugly mugs!!


We also will be doing a radio takeover on Generic Insight Radio this month. Generic Insight Radio is a free internet radio show ran by our dear friend Barrie based out of New York City. We will post the date it will air in the next few days. We get an hour to play some of our music and basically whatever the hell else we feel is legitimate. Expect plenty of awkward small talk, some hip hop oldies, and a bunch of off the wall shit. It should be pretty awesome!


Next, we are doing a week long tour in about three weeks with Touche Amore all across the Midwest. Most the shows are in basements, which is going to be amazing!! Come check out this amazing band and come say Hi to us!! It's during the Thanksgiving holiday, so a few of the shows are potlucks, bring some mashed potatoes!


Also, we got asked to play Festivus for the Restivus Fest 2009 up in Milwaukee on December 28th. There is some amazing bands playing, like La Dispute, Red Knife Lottery, and Native just to name a few. Come sport your new Christmas sweater at this awesome fest!

We are also writing a bunch and have been playing a bunch of new songs at shows, so come on out and check out some new tunes, we are heading into the studio the first week of December to demo about 5 or 6 songs, so we are working on those night and day. We are also putting in an order for merch next week, so come on out to some shows and pick up some new gear, we should have a Big Cartel merch site set up soon as well.

Other than that, life is good. We are still working on booking our full US tour so if you want to see us in your town, more than likely we will be through Feb-April, shoot us an email and let us know, so we can work on setting something up.

Live in Studio

Well, we made quick work of making a video. Our friend Tim Dodd (www.timdoddphotography.com) came with us and some buddies out to Chris Browns studio and we made a live video . We are happy as can be on the outcome of it. It looks and sounds sharp! Keep in mind it is a live track being used! Watch it in HD for sure! Tonight was fucking amazing!!! Thanks to everyone who came out and continue to come out and support!!! Andrew Jonathan, Agress, Rotting Out, and Expire all killed it!!! Big thanks to the dudes at the 1108 House, and it rules that they are going to continue to have shows!! Thanks to Jeff Chord for doing the show, thanks to Sean for slingin merch for us tonight as well! It was awesome to see so many friends hanging out and having a good time and it was awesome to hang out with the dudes in Expire, it's been way too long since our boy Zach has been in town!

Fall is Coming!

Hi everyone! Time has been flying since we have been home, but we have been busy as hell writing and scheming for the next few months. Josh P is hard at work/hardly working on his last semester of college, Ben, Josh S, and myself have been working ourselves stupid at our respected jobs.

Writing for our full length is in full force and we have a good 4 songs already finished for the most part and we are all very excited about how well everything is coming together.

We will also have some awesome news to report at the end of this month regarding things of a vinyl nature, so keep your eyes pealed for that!

In November we will be doing about a week with Touche Amore from Los Angelas! They will be on their way back West from supporting Thursday on a 3 week tour. If you haven't heard of this band, do yourself a huge favor and check them out! www.myspace.com/toucheamore

Oh the Humanity

So, its a little sad to know the last update on our tour blog was the first day of tour, and yesterday was the last day of tour!! Sorry everyone, big updates are on their way, we ran into some technical troubles. We are home safe and had a blast! Big thanks to everyone who we met, played with, and helped us out on this tour! We won't forget it!!!

Day 1 - Iowa City

Vanna White is fully stuffed and ready to roll. Ben also looks great.

We had a nice hour long drive to Iowa City, we got there plenty early and hung out with a bunch of people who had come down to see the show from Cedar Falls. We stuffed ourselves stupid and it was about show time. The show was at Public Space One, which is in the basement of one of the University buildings right downtown. Our friends in The Powerplant opened the show and after them Mr. Johnny Irani took to the stage and swooned the women.
Josh even got in on the act.
The show went great! We played pretty clean and sold a bunch of shirts and other goodies. High Life and Lord Green played fucking killer sets. Josh, Cyrus, and I missed Dios Mio because we had a run in with the Iowa City PD and they thought we were robbing our own van, but from what I heard Dios Mio killed it.
Cyrus and I hung out with our friend Isaiah and the rest of Dios Mio in their party bus, this is my favorite picture of the night, hahaha.

We ended up finish up at the show around 1 AM and heading to a bar to have some beverages. Last call was called and we got dragged to a "after hours" bar by some locals, that was in fact a bar that was closed, we weren't welcome so we grabbed some more beverages and went to our friend Alex's to hang out for the night. We ended up sitting on his porch until morning, rolling cigarettes, drinking 40s, and listening to Merle Haggard. All in all day 1 was a fucking success.

Oh Hey There

One week out from tour and we are ready to roll. The Sweat Shop has turned into a factory of making cds, finishing inserts, and getting everything else taken care of. We are all very excited and anxious as all hell! See everybody very soon!

Welcome to the Sweat Shop

It's summer and this is where we have all been spending most of our time. Take Control just returned from tour and played their last show last night, so Ben is back in town for good. The show last night was amazing, all the bands had amazing sets and Take Control went out on the best note that they possibly could, it was very cool to see. Good luck to all the dudes in that band and all the future endeavors that they may be apart of.
We finished up our 5 song EP last month at Chris Brown's and decided to title it "The Great and the Alleged Great". We will have CD's with us on tour this summer, and it should hopefully be on vinyl this fall. We just ordered merch for tour as well, so we should have everything ready to go by the time we leave. Studio Time!!

The show last week was a fucking blast! Thanks for all the awesome words everyone had for us! We really appreciate it! Thanks to all the bands as well, everyone tore it up and there was way too many people crammed in that basement which was awesome!

We are heading into the studio tomorrow to record some new material for a release this summer, sow e should have some new music up this week for sure! We are very excited to spend a lot more time on this recording, and really put everything we have into it.

Booking is going well, we still have a few gaps here and there that need a little work, but hey, that's what happens when you book a month long tour right out of the gates. If you are interested in booking us to play your town, email us for sure:

We moved into our new house and practice space this last week as well and life is good! Being able to practice at anytime is such a strange/awesome thing!

Things are moving quicker than ever! This band has its first show next weekend. We are very lucky to be able to play our first show with some amazing bands and some amazing friends! The Josh's and I move into our new house and practice space next week as well, so expect plenty of pictures from the creative war room! I'm very excited about it and it only means we will be practicing and creating a lot more!

We are playing with Take Control next weekend and it will be one of their last shows in Iowa before they play their last show on June 12th. Everyone should definitely stop on out and wish them good luck on their upcoming tour. We are also playing with Rattletooth and Widower, who we will be hitting the road with this summer and are both awesome bands!

Well, we finally made it. We started this band about three months ago and we finally have something to show for it. The snowball is starting to gain speed!
